The Fraunhofer IFAM is one of Europe's most important independent research institutions in the fields of "shaping and functional materials" as well as "bonding technology and surfaces". Our focus is on metallic and polymer materials.
We are a leading research partner in lost foam technology and work hand in hand with industry through the Lost Foam Council e.V. association. The research and development work of the Fraunhofer IFAM therefore aims at reliable and application-oriented solutions for our customers.
Our products and technologies address above all industries with special significance for sustainability: aviation, automotive, energy and environment as well as medical technology and life sciences. Solutions developed at the institute are also used in other branches of industry such as mechanical and plant engineering, electronics and electrical engineering as well as ship and rail vehicle construction or the packaging and construction industries.
